Vincent Ochoa

Judge Ochoa started his law career as a law clerk for a District Judge in 1978 handling family, civil, and criminal cases. In 1979, Judge Ochoa went into private practice handing civil cases including family law cases. In 1981, he argued his first family law case in the Nevada Supreme Court (See Waldman v. Waldman 97 Nev. 546, 635 P.2d 289 Nev., 1981. See Nevada Supreme Court web site for his other family cases in the Supreme Court.) Judge Ochoa represented the citizens of Nevada in 1982 as a Deputy Attorney General handling abuse and neglect cases plus termination of parental rights cases. Judge Ochoa opened his own law practice handling family cases, divorces, custody, child support, and adoption with both a law office in Las Vegas and in Reno, Nevada. His practice included representing juveniles in Family/Juvenile Court for over 25 years and representing parents in Family Court in Abuse and Neglect cases for over 20 years. Judge Ochoa’s law practice included handling family court appeals to Nevada Supreme Court (See Deck v. State Dept. of Human Resources, Div. of Child and Family 113 Nev. 124, 930 P.2d 760 (1997)). Since being elected a District Judge, Judge Ochoa has handled 960 motion hearings on family law cases and 97 bench trial/evidentiary hearings in 2011. In 2012, Judge Ochoa heard 975 family case motions and 134 bench trial/evidentiary hearings. Judge Ochoa represented the Clark County law community on the Board of Governors for the state Bar of Nevada from 2009 to 2011. He has served on the Board of Directors for Southern Nevada Legal Service. He is a graduate of the prestigious University of Notre Dame Law School.
