B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio, 1969; J.D., Floyd R. Mechem Prize Scholar, the University of Chicago Law School, Chicago, Illinois, 1972. Admitted to New York State Bar, 1974.
U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (legal intern) (1972-1973); State University of New York (assistant counsel) (1974-1977); the General Electric Company (1977-1988; Chief Environmental Counsel, nationwide, 1980-1985); Bond, Schoeneck and King, resident in Albany, New York office (partner in private practice) (1988-1994); Deputy Counsel to Governor George E. Pataki (1995-1997). Judge, New York State Court of Claims, confirmed for an unexpired term on April 30, 1998 and for a full term on June 2, 1999; designated Presiding Judge of the New York State Court of Claims, June 2, 1999; interim appointment as Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals, January 6, 2003; confirmed as Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals, January 22, 2003. She and her husband, Howard John Read, reside in West Sand Lake and Saratoga Springs, New York.
