Mary Catherine Cuff

Judge Mary Catherine Cuff was nominated to the Superior Court by Gov. Thomas H. Kean on Nov. 12, 1987 and sworn in on Feb. 5, 1988. She was nominated for tenure by Gov. Christine Todd Whitman and was sworn in on Feb. 5, 1995.
Judge Cuff served in the civil and family divisions in the Monmouth Vicinage from February 1988 until September 1994, when she was elevated to the Appellate Division. She was temporarily assigned to the Supreme Court in October 2012.
Judge Cuff was born on Aug. 28, 1947. She is a graduate of Rosemont College and Rutgers School of Law-Newark.
After her graduation from law school in 1973, Judge Cuff served as a deputy attorney general, special assistant to the state treasurer, assistant U.S. attorney, concluding her service as Chief of the Civil Division, and worked in the law firm of Waters, McPherson, McNeill in Secaucus.
Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Cuff served as an adjunct instructor at the Seton Hall University School of Law, instructor of the Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute, judge of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s National Moot Trial Competition, lay advisory board member of St. Vincent’s Academy in Newark and director and president of the Rosemont College Alumnae Association. She has also served as a trustee of Rosemont College.
