Gregory Guidry
Louisiana Supreme Court
Justice Greg Gerard Guidry began serving on the Louisiana Supreme Court as an Associate Justice in January, 2009. He was formerly a judge on the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, having won election in August, 2006. He served as a district court judge on the Twenty-Fourth Judicial District Court for the Parish of Jefferson for six years beginning in October, 2000. He is a 1985 graduate of the Louisiana State University Law Center where he was inducted into the Order of Coif and selected for the Louisiana Law Review on the basis of grades. He was also awarded a Rotary Foundation Scholarship for International Understanding. During the scholarship year, Justice Guidry studied classical civilizations and Roman law at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa.
Upon returning to the United States, he was employed in the New Orleans office of Liskow & Lewis as a member of the commercial litigation section. For nearly ten years, beginning in September, 1990, he served as an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. While there, he prosecuted scores of federal criminal cases, primarily involving public corruption and commercial fraud. He briefed and argued numerous cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He served at various times as division supervisor, ethics officer, trial advocacy instructor for the United States Department of Justice, and grand jury coordinator for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He received commendations for his work from the United States Attorney General and the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations. He also served as a legal advisor and trial advocacy instructor to the governments of the United States Virgin Islands and the Republic of South Africa.
